Sérgio Oliveira announced his departure from Sport Recife. In a social media post, the Portuguese midfielder explained that he had no other option but to terminate the contract that tied him to the club until December 2026. "I close my passage at Sport Recife. Unfortunately, I had no other choice but to terminate the contract and follow my path. I have always respected this institution, my colleagues, the club's professionals, the fans, and I thank all those who were with me. I wish the best to the club in the future", wrote the former FC Porto player. Contracted in 2025 with great expectation, according to Globoesporte, Sérgio Oliveira represented a monthly charge of approximately 145,000 euros for the Sport coffers. The Pernambuco club still has values in debt with the athlete related to the previous season. The initial agreement provided a clause that allowed the player to unilaterally activate the renewal for the 2026 season, an option that Sérgio Oliveira exercised in December of the previous year, before the club's electoral act. However, his continuity became financially unsustainable for the new direction, due to his high salary. As a result, the Portuguese midfielder was informed not to report to work in early January. At Sport's service in 2025, the international Portuguese player participated in 29 games, 12 of which as a starter, scoring two goals and providing two assists.
